Jaguar C-X17 details revealed

Record Year For Jaguar

The latest details on the new Jaguar 4×4, the C-X17, have been revealed. The C-X17 was first revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year and is now set to rival the likes of the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3.

Though Jaguar is owned by the same company as Land Rover, the company plan to focus on making their new model fun to drive on the road. They will also avoid stealing sales from Land Rover by making the C-X17 bigger than a Range Rover Evoque but cheaper than the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. So with that in mind this model could make for the ideal rival for the Qashqai from Nissan.

Will the Jaguar C-X17 be different from it’s concept?

The concept version of the Jaguar C-X17 featured a huge touchscreen interface that sat between the two front seats but it’s size and cost means that it is unlikely to feature on the production car. Despite this, the car is to gain a centrally mounted touchscreen that can be used to control things such as the sound and ventilation systems. This will allow the car to transmit it’s own in car WIFI hot spot to give occupants access to the internet and allow them to share files etc.

One feature which is sure to make production is the safety feature that warns exiting passengers of hazards such as approaching cyclists.

The company have taken obvious cues from other models in the range but the C-X17 is set to share most of it’s components with the Jaguar XE which is to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October. This means that the same engines which fit into the XE could also be used in the C-X17. Those include the plus-500 brake horse power V8, smaller V6 petrol units and an economical diesel.

With the diesel engine, the Jaguar would be able to compete with the brand new BMW X3 20d that has a fuel economy of 54.3mpg. If the company decided to develop a hybrid engine for their XE, the C-X17 would also be compatible to use it.

Although at present the C-X17 is set to be offered with four wheel drive, a two wheel drive version would offer added economy and still offer the fun driving experience of a Jaguar.

Inside, the model is set to gain plenty of leather, metal and wood, in line with Jaguar’s reputation for luxury. As such, features such as the XF and XE’s mood lighting, air vents that revolve into an open position on start up are likely to be carried over to the new SUV.

When will the Jaguar C-X17 become available and for how much?

At present production versions of the Jaguar C-X17 have been spotted out on public roads during testing, which backs up the theory that the car will be unveiled in Paris. This would put the model on track for a sale date in 2016.

Since Jaguar are targeting the likes of the BMW X3, the new model is expected to begin at around £30,000.
