Volkswagen Polo 5th best selling UK car

The Volkswagen Polo model has been named the 5th best selling car model in the UK for 2014.

In 2014, the German brand, Volkswagen, sold 3,875 Polo models in the UK, making it one of the most desirable superminis on the market. In all intents and purposes, the Polo is just a junior Golf, mirroring the qualities of it’s ‘big brother’ in the smaller supermini segment and despite it’s compact dimensions, the Polo has that highly prized ‘big car feel’. Though the model is pricier that it’s direct rivals, it has proved very popular with many customers.

Volkswagen Polo specs, styling and tech

No matter which trim level you buy, the Polo is a stylish little car. The range was revised in April 2013, with extra kit and the addition of a new mid-range model aimed at younger drivers.

The entry level trim is the least equipped, coming with 14 inch steel wheels and no air con, which can be found in the S A/C model. The Match Edition Polo includes 15 inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, electric windows for the front and rear, Bluetooth and other device integration, plus door mirror and handles in the same colour as the body. An R-Line model is better for those wanting a sportier feel, while a R-Line Style model is best for those wanting a smaller engine for cheaper insurance. The SEL model comes with 16 inch alloy wheels, sports seats and a red stripe on the grille so everyone knows it’s a GTI.

Power comes from a range of engines including a 1.2 litre turbocharged TSI petrol unit that can be equipped with a DSG automatic gearbox. The new Volkswagen Polo BlueGT model is powered by a new 1.4 litre TSI engine which produces 138 brake horse power and 250Nm of torque, going from a standstill to 62mph in 7.9 seconds. With these all round perfect attributes we highly believe that this model is a top flight contender for other rival car brand’s such as the likes of, BMW,Audi and Peugeot.

Is the Volkswagen Polo safe?

The German-made car has received a five star Euro NCAP rating, making the Polo very safe, especially with a 90% rating for adult occupant protection. You get electronic stability control and anti-whiplash headrests as standard along with a full set of airbags. The Polo has not had any major recalls and VW reputation for reliability means the model is pretty dependable.

The new Volkswagen Polo model comes in the form of the Volkswagen Polo GTE plug in hybrid and will go on sale in spring for around £20,000 after the government £5,000 grant for low emissions.
